To maximize our patients’ comfort, our office offers three types of dental sedation:
1) Nitrous Oxide Sedation (Laughing Gas)
2) Oral Conscious Sedation
3) Intravenous (IV) Sedation
Nitrous Oxide Sedation:
Nitrous Oxide Sedation is also known as “laughing gas”. It is a colorless odorless gas inhaled with oxygen during treatment that provides a calming and euphoric feeling. The level of gas is customized for each patient to allow maximum comfort and is continuously monitored for your safety. The effects of Nitrous Oxide are very short-lived and will subside after the gas is discontinued and a continuous flow of oxygen is delivered. You will not need an escort if you elect this type of sedation.
Oral Conscious Sedation:
Oral Conscious Sedation involves taking a prescribed medication, in our office, approximately an hour prior to your appointment. You will be escorted to our private comfort room to relax before your procedure. This method allows you to feel relaxed in the dental chair, while remaining conscious and able to answer our questions. We will often combine the medication with Nitrous Oxide to maximize your comfort throughout your visit. Although dental procedures may take an extended time, you will feel as if they take only minutes. Patients often become so relaxed that they fall asleep and many do not remember their procedure. The effects of the sedative typically subside the following day. Due to the sedative effects of the medication, you will need an escort present throughout your procedure and to drive you home.
If you choose Oral Conscious Sedation, it will administered and monitored by Drs. Attar, Walsh or Turner in our comforting office environment.
Intravenous Sedation (“IV Sedation”)
Intravenous Sedation or “twilight sleep” helps you to be comfortable and calm when undergoing dental procedures. A trained dental anesthesiologist will administer and monitor the anesthesia in combination with Drs. Attar, Walsh or Turner. Intravenous sedation or “IV sedation” (twilight sedation) is designed to better enable you to undergo your dental procedures while you are very relaxed. It will enable you to tolerate as well as not remember most procedures. IV sedation will help alleviate the anxiety associated with your treatment. You may not always be asleep but you will be comfortable, calm and relaxed, drifting in and out of sleep – a “twilight sleep”.
Sedation dentistry is also a great option for children or simply- the fearful!
If you experience dental phobia – fear no more! At Advanced Endodontics of Texas, we are committed to understanding the very real nature of your fears. Not only will our staff treat you with delicacy and care, but sedation will allow you to experience dentistry in a whole new way. While engaging in a pleasant sleep-like experience, Drs. Attar, Walsh and Turner will be hard at work making sure you receive the results you desire.
